Product Overview
that Richie Valens' music is still listened to with affection and still frequently covered and revived, more than 35 years after his death, is a tribute both to the enduring timelessness of the best of his songs, and of course the tragic circumstances of his death, which was in the same air crash, on February 3rd 1959, which robbed the world of Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper. What perhaps is not so readily remembered almost four decades after that traumatic event in Pop Music history is that Valens was at least in the U.S.A. a bigger chart star than Holly at the time of their deaths. His biggest hit Donna was sitting at No. 3 in the U.S.A chartt hat week, with its B-side La Bamba also in strong contention at No. 22, after the tragedy Donna rose to No. 2 and went on to sell a million copies within the next few months. Also generally forgotten today is that Valens was only 17 years old when he died, and had been recording professionally for a mere eight months
