- Determines the crankshaft position

- The computer uses this and other inputs to calculate injector on time and ignition timing
- Symptoms of failure include a check engine light, hard starting and/or poor vehicle drivability
- No scheduled service for a crankshaft positioning sensor therefore, the part must be replaced when failure occurs
